Fast Rising Ghanaian Dancehall Artiste: KAHPUN

Samuel Ampah aka KAHPUN (Heart of African Reggae/Dancehall) is an award winning multi-talented artiste & song writer born and raised in Cape coast, Ghana on June 6, 1989.

He had passion for arts at a tender age and enjoyed writing poems and lyrics as his hobby during school days

Kahpun completed University Junior High School & Ti Ahmadiyya Senior High School in 2008 respectively

Higher Heightz Army is his band & “Eeeaazzyy” is his slogan

Kahpun began his career after school as a rapper and a group leader for the group Skillz, eventually learning and growing into a solo artiste (singjay)

He released a couple of controversial hot singles like Mr Politrician & Bobo Da Capone with a street video which boosted his career to another level and gained him

more fans in his city, Cape Coast.

Kahpun has a different way of putting his lyrics together and his creativity baffles a lot of people especially those who get the chance to witness how he works on riddims in the studio.

His message is mostly about social issues and real life stories and he is gradually reaching the masses with his unique brand, style and powerful lyrics

His style of fashion is mostly African blended with Kente (Rich African fabric) as part of his brand.

He was one of the two artistes who were selected to represent Central Region in the Mtn Hitmaker Season 1.

In 2013, he enrolled at Ghana Institute of Journalism & successfully completed a four year intensive course in radio & television presentation

His dancehall/reggae journey surprisingly began same year

The development of his unique style and stagecraft is the result of a lifetime of musical experience or influence

Kahpun gets his inspiration from dancehall artistes like Sizzla Kalonji, Lucky Dube, Rocky Dawuni, Capleton, Vybz Kartel, Bounty Killer, Beenie man among others but Bob Marley is his greatest inspiration

His confidence in the Dancehall/Reggae industry developed with time and he is not the type who loses focus

Kahpun lives a music life so consistency is not a stranger to him.

He released his Psycho Mix tape Album ( LP ) hosted by Dj Wyre in June 2014.

In October 2019 he officially released his first EP titled My Story, My Song.

The tracks on the EP which consists of six amusing songs plus an intro, making it seven in total were first released around mid 2019 but the full EP was released in October 2019.

Surprisingly, Mr. Logic (a popular radio presenter and dancehall artiste of Ghanaian descent) officially disclosed in May 2020 that the Higher Heightz Army General and Hunta Productions signee is a biological cousin direct from his mother’s side and was supposed to work with him about four years ago and finally faith has brought them together to work as a family and a music body.

He added.

On May 13, 2020 Kahpun won the hearts of the world by becoming the overall winner of Jamaican reggae artiste and Bornfire Music Boss, Anthony B’s #12BarsVerseChallenge

The “Excuse Me Miss” hit maker beat several talented artistes across the world who also participated in the challenge.

In an official post by Anthony B on Instagram, he congratulated the Hunta Productions Signee saying: “ANTHONY-B & BORNFIRE VOTE #17. @Kahpunhha as the TEAM FIRST PLACE WINNER in the #12BarsVerseChallenge #jailbird”.

The “12 Bars Verse Challenge” is an Anthony B and Bornfire Music initiative to discover an artist from any part of the world to be featured on his song titled “JailBird” and Kahpun from Ghana, is the favorite to wear that crown as judged by public votes.

Speaking to Kahpun on RG-TV, he said: “First of all, I give thanks to the almighty God, and my sincere gratitude to Anthony B, Bornfire Music and his entire team for the recognition of my talent and what we have been doing all these years. I feel humbled and honored to work with the great Anthony B and see it as another step for my music career, I appreciate the opportunity, platform, and see the bigger picture.

“I promise to continue feeding the world with what God has blessed me with. Thanks to my Label Hunta Productions, Flossyking (Blade Entertainment), and Red Panther Productions for making this happen. Much appreciation to the world for choosing me, am grateful”.
