His Majesty Dr. Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV: King of Tooro

His Majesty Dr. Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, King of Tooro Kingdom in Uganda was born on 16th April 1992.

When his father, Patrick David Matthew Rwamuhokya Kaboyo Olimi III passed away on 26th August 1995, the 3-year old Prince ascended the throne on 12th September 1995, entering the Guinness Book of World Records as the Youngest Reigning Mon­arch in the World!

Aged 26 years, King Oyo has significant influence and respect among young people.

He is leading initiatives to enable young people realize their potential and contribute positively to development of their communities and countries.

His Majesty King Oyo was appointed a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for ending HIV/AIDS among the youth by 2030 because of his personal commitment in the fight against HIV/AIDS and his continued efforts for meaningful involvement of youth and cultural leaders in ending the AIDS epidemic.

As UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador, His Majesty King Oyo is engaging and inspiring over 500 million young people to take a stand against HIV/AIDS using a creative mix of youth innovations, edutainment, sports, social media and advocacy.

His Majesty King Oyo is also very passionate about agriculture and entrepreneurship.

In October 2016, His Majesty King Oyo started an initiative dubbed “Agriculture is Wealth” that aims to inspire and lead his people especially the youth to engage in agriculture/farming as a business for wealth creation, to solve unemployment and to gain food and income security.

His Majesty King Oyo is now setting up model farms; and establishing partnerships for agriculture modernization, knowledge and technology transfer, research, climate change mitigation and adaptation and market access.

His Majesty King Oyo has established the “King Oyo Youth Innovations Fund” to inspire and support the youth to develop innovations and solutions to some of today’s greatest challenges like ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic, addressing unemployment, eradicating poverty, ensuring food security, managing disasters and promoting culture.

His Majesty King Oyo is a Messenger of Peace.

In 2014, King Oyo was awarded a Honorary Doctorate of Peace by the University of Vietnam for his great work in fostering peace and reconciliation.

His Majesty King Oyo has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Winchester in the UK and has received other academic honours.

Who was His Father Patrick David Matthew Rwamuhokya Kaboyo Olimi III?

PATRICK David Matthew Rwamuhokya Olimi III Kaboyo II was born on September 9, 1945 to the then king of Toro, Â Sir George David Matthew Kamurasi Rukidi III.

His mother was Lady Byanjeru Kezia Bonabaana.

He was the fourth son and had five brothers and four sisters, of whom Princess Elizabeth Bagaya was the eldest.

He went to school at Budo, Nyakasura School in Fort Portal, Sherborne School, Dorset, and Makerere University, Kampala.

Kaboyo ascended to the throne upon the death of his father, on December 21, 1965, becoming the 12th Omukama of Toro.

He reigned briefly before monarchies were abolished on September 22, 1967.

After a period of exile in Kenya, he came back and served as a minister-counsellor at the Uganda Embassy in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, between 1987 and 1990.

In 1987, he married Best Kemigisa, daughter of Prince Mujungu, of the Batuku clan, of Rwebisengo, Bundibugyo district. 

They had 3 children one son and two daughters.

He was Uganda’s Ambassador to Cuba, from 1990 to 1993.

In 1993, he returned to take up his throne after the Government restored monarchies and traditional rulers.

He died on August 26, 1995 at the age of 50, leaving the throne to his three year-old son, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
